Success at Work

Success at Work

Before I became entrepreneur, I was an employee at a big company for 2 and half years. I traveled a lot around the world and I worked with customers in different countries.

I learned a lot about success at work in that period, but I’ve learned even more as an entrepreneur.

I am very excited to share with you some amazing tips on how to be successful at work.

The Most Important Things You Need to Do If You Want to Be Successful at Work

1. Be Your Own Boss

No matter if you have or don’t have your own business, you need to act as if you are your own boss!

This is the first and most important thing which will ensure your success at work!

Many people think the opposite and that is the exact reason why they are not happy or successful at work.

You are not working for someone else’s benefit. You are working to ensure that YOU have a good future. The better you are at what you do, the better future you will be able to create for yourself.

That’s why you need to put the same effort forth, no matter if you are an employee or a business owner.

2. Decide to Be Successful

If you are not good at what you do or if you don’t like your job, you will feel miserable and spend the majority of your work week counting down the time until the weekend.

You have every right to be successful in life and to earn money doing things you actually like doing.

You will spend most of your life working, so you must chose a career which will make you feel good about yourself!

When you are good and successful at work, you become more self-confident and you enjoy your working days more.

If you are not happy with your job at the moment, you have two options:

  • Improve your skills and become more successful at your current job
  • Change your job or even switch career choices

No matter which option you go with, you need to decide that you will become successful at work!

Decide exactly how successful you want to be. If you want to double your income, then be prepared to double your work.

If you want to be among the top 10% of successful people in your company, you need to be prepared to work harder.

The only way to be successful is to be proactive. You must take responsibility for your future career.

Don’t wait for opportunities, create opportunities!

3. Commit Yourself to Excellence

If you really want to be successful then you need to be prepared to work hard and you need to commit yourself to excellence.

Chatting with your work colleagues for half of the working day and taking long breaks won’t put you on the path of success.

You need to build a reputation of excellence as an expert in the field, but nobody has become an expert overnight and without hard work.

Don’t expect a huge salary increase if you didn’t give your best to deserve it. Don’t expect success at work if you are not ready to commit to excellence!

4. Make Yourself Valuable

The only way to make yourself valuable is to give value to your company or your clients.

The most appreciated and most successful people that I met where those who constantly gave huge value to their companies and to the people around them.

The more valuable you are, the more opportunities you will have.

How you can become more valuable?

  1. Constantly Upgrade Your Skills

Every day at your work, you must have a goal to become more valuable than yesterday. Many people “settle“ in their positions and never bother to learn new skills again. Those people never achieve big success at work since new skills are needed to use such things as new technology. That’s why you need to learn something new every day. The more things you know, the more valuable you will be and the less likely it will be that you get replaced by a more successful person.

  2. Constantly Challenge Yourself

You will have problems every day. You can’t avoid them because problems are a part of life. What you can do is to become a good problem-solver and to constantly challenge yourself to solve bigger and bigger problems every day. That is the only way to grow! Success at work is the result of never ending problem solving. That’s why you need to constantly:

  3. Work More Than Other People Around You Work

If you arrive at work an hour before everyone else, you have a better chance of finishing important tasks before everyone else even arrives at work. You can also avoid traffic jams and cut your traveling time, allowing you to have more time being productive. If you take shorter lunch breaks, you will again have the opportunity to work with fewer distractions while all others are eating. Make sure that you do as much as possible in one day. Successful people are productive, so you need to always find ways to increase your productivity and to do more work than other people do! Productive people easily become valuable!

  4. Learn From People Who Have More Knowledge Than You Have

The quickest way to achieve success at work is to learn from others who are more successful than you. Find those people, ask them questions, talk with them and learn from them. The quicker you can get knew knowledge, the quicker you can become more valuable!

5. Identify your strengths and weakness

Are you a good negotiator? Do you know how to deal with people? Are you good problem-solver and decision-maker? What message do you send to others with your body language?

What are your strengths and weakness?

Successful people know what their strengths are and they structure their businesses around those skills, but at the same time, they also work on their weaknesses in order to make them stronger.

I’ve worked with many engineers who had good technical knowledge but poor “people skills.” Many of them never bothered to improve on those skills. Those people never become managers and leaders.

No matter how good your technical knowledge is, what will determine your success is your ability to deal with people.

If you don’t know how to deal with people, you must learn how to develop this skill. Your career and success at work will highly depend on this.

If you want to achieve success at work you need to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. You need find a way to improve on things which you are not good at but which are important for your success!

6. Do More Than Is Expected From You

The biggest mistake that people make is to do exactly what someone asked them to do, or even worse – they do less than expected.

To be among the top people in your company, you must do more than is expected from you and even suggest your own ideas and solutions to problems. That is how you impress someone and ensure yourself a good future.

When I was employee, I always tried to do more than what was expected from me and that’s why I was rewarded many times throughout my 2 years of work. I was willing to do more than expected from the beginning, even when I didn’t know that someone would reward me.

Reward comes as a result of the value you create for others. Many people are not willing to do more than expected because they don’t think they’ll be paid anything extra, so they don’t even bother to try. If you want to become successful at work, you need to think differently.

Remember this and next time when someone ask you to do something, do more than what is expected! You will be surprised by the difference this can make!
